The village lies in the beautiful environment of Moravian-Silesian Beskydy. Part of Malenovice lies in the natural protected reserve of Beskydy. The village of Malenovice was founded at the beginning of 17th century by Jan Bruntálský. The village was called Malinov (raspberry village) according to a huge quantity of raspberries that grew in this area. Iron ore was mined here in the period from 1799 to 1894. Mining activities were stopped in 1895. Already for several decades Malenovice is a synonym for tourism. There is a dense network of marked tourist paths for pedestrian and cyclists that frequently visit the highest top of Beskydy mountains - Lysá Hora.
