Frýdlant nad Ostravicí lies on Ostravice river in wide valley between the massif of Lysá hora and Ondřejník. It is a natural centre of the entire microregion and starting point of the routes to the centre of Moravian-Silesian Beskydy. The beginning of systematic settlement in the north-eastern part of Moravia falls within the second half of 13th century. Czech king Přemysl Otakar I. charged the bishop of Olomouc Bruno of Schaumburk with this particular task. However, Frýdlant nad Ostravicí was founded only one hundred years later, i.e. during the second half of 14th century, when the country was governed by the ?father of the country?, emperor and king Charles IV. The first written mention is however several tens of year younger and dates back to 1395. In the past Frýdlant was an industrial centre of the area thanks to its railway production. Frýdlant nad Ostravicí nowadays focuses especially on the tourism. The town offers its visitors various cultural and sports opportunities. Another interesting feature is the gallery of artistic enamel and cast iron. Whoever desires to have active rest, s/he will find the best conditions for it in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí and its surroundings. New modern sports facilities were born very recently. Sport hall in the neighbourhood of the football field with fit centre, tennis hall with summer tennis area is located near the swimming pool with toboggan, beach volleyball court, sports and relax centre, where it is possible to find beach volleyball court, squash court, tennis courts with artificial surface. There are several playgrounds available for the kids. Everything can be viewed from the bird?s perspective, because there is a sports airport in Frýdlant nad Ostravicí for powered and unpowered flying, which also offers basic parachute training, tandem parachuting, sightseeing flights and flight training. Frýdlant is an ideal place for undemanding as well as demanding tourism, both for pedestrians as well as cyclists. It is possible to set out for a tour in the surrounding mountains - Lysá hora, Ondřejník or Smrk. In the winter period there are suitable terrains for cross country skiing and downhill skiing in the town surroundings.

- Monastery of St. Karel Boromejský ? building with two side buttresses is dominated by neo-romantic regular chapel, copy of the basilica of St. Paul in Rome. Wooden ceiling of the chapel is a real masterpiece.
- Galery of artistic enamel and cast iron with exposition of Ferdiš Duša ? reminding of the iron and enamelling tradition.
- Boarding house Letohrádek ? situated at the foothill of Ondřejník, reconstructed in the style of Dušan Jurkovič

Gallery of artistic enamel and cast iron ? unique exposition in Central Europe. It was founded thanks to initiative of the EMAIL ART art association. Its members, in cooperation with the municipality of Frýdlant nad Ostravicí and local enamelling companies organize since 1999 International Symposiums of Frýdlant artistic enamel. It is attended by artists from the Czech Republic, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Slovakia and Japan. Unique collection presents various technological procedures, but especially a wide selection of artistic opinions influenced by local traditions and schools. The gallery also includes Monument of Ferdiš Duša ? Frýdlant native, ceramist, painter and graphic. Exhibition hall is complemented by regular accompanying exhibitions.
